Intelligent Transport Systems are an assembly of advanced systems based on electronics, telecommunications and information technologies fields, which support an efficient public and freight transport.
Intelligent Transport Systems is applied to all transportation modes (road, railway, air, maritime and inland waters, public) having an important impact on the multimodal transport.
Intelligent Transport Systems promotion in Romania to:
- improve the traffic safety
- increase the mobility
- minimize the impact on the environment
- ensure the inter-operability and integration in the European transport networks
- efficiently manage the entire transport process.
Strategy
- Elaboration of the National Program for the Intelligent Transport Systems Development in Romania, between 2000 and 2010, in conformance with the national program for transport development
- Promotion of the Romanian products and services, assuring the interoperability and the integration in European transport networks
- Co-operation at national, regional and international level, through mutual interest projects and technology transfer
- Ensurance of technical and institutional regulations for the efficient implementation of the Intelligent Transport Systems
- Developing a market that is based on Intelligent Transport Systems depends directly on the existence of such partnership
